Luca's Semitransparent Shapes let you apply a variety of shapes directly on your clip or image and customize a number of parameters (See image below). It can be used and misused in many ways; from  statistic graphs to quick and easy lower third background it is entirely up to you how and when to use it. To install the plug-in:

After downloading the plug-in  drag it to Macintosh HD / Library / Application Support /Final Cut Pro System Support / Plugins folder.
 

Finally restart Final Cut Pro and the plug-in should show up in the effects menu.
